In 1966, Ford produced a total of 72,119 Mustang Convertibles, making it a relatively rare variant compared to the coupe or fastback models. This was the golden days for Ford and the Mustang was the centerpiece.

The 1966 Mustang debuted with moderate trim changes including a new grille, side ornamentation, wheel covers, and gas cap. Ford's new C4 "Cruise-O-Matic" three-speed automatic transmission became available for the 225 hp V8.

Mustangs in excellent shape are likely more expensive than those lower on the scale. Availability: Some classic Mustang models only had a few dozen or hundred units produced. As time passes, the number of original units decreases due to accidents or regular wear.

Of all classic cars, Mustangs were quite literally built to be reliable, and today's technology has made it possible and accessible to extend their lives almost indefinitely. In milestone and monetary terms, they make a good investment.

According to a November 2023 study by iSeeCars, the Mustang sees an average depreciation of 24.5% over five years — which would boil down to about $10,000 off its MSRP. That puts it just outside of the top 10 in the study, but it shows the Mustang is still a valuable vehicle even a half-decade after you purchase it.

You can spot a 1966 Mustang by its grille texture, chrome hood molding, redesigned gas cap, new wheel covers, upgrade from 13″ to 14″ wheels (six cylinder models only), standard five-pod gauge cluster, redesigned side-scoop brightwork, and chrome panels over the rocker panels (deleted on GT).

After the first model year, the Ford Mustang found its feet and took the automotive world by storm, everyone needed a Mustang, which is probably why the 1966 Mustang sold so well. Being praised for its lush drive quality and good looks, the '66 Stang is many people's favourite year.

Depending on how you define rare, there are several Mustangs that could qualify for rarest Mustang. The 1969 Mustang E could qualify; only 50 units were produced. But the reason why so few were produced was that nobody particularly cared for them in 1969 and that hasn't really changed.

How fast did the original Ford Shelby 1966 go? If you're referring to the top speed, it depends on the rear axle gearing. With the 3.89 ratio it might top out at 124 mph. A 3.50 rear axle ration might top out at 133 mph at redline.

They're highly sought after by collectors, and once they achieve classic car status, these cars continue to rise in value. Selling a classic Mustang can fetch considerable money if the car has been well-maintained or restored. Older models of Mustang are easy to maintain.

Red is the most popular shade, picked almost one-third of the time. It is followed by blue, white, black, and silver. Though Wimbledon White is often painted over, it is also occasionally picked as a repaint shade.
