NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

1. Camp on Angel Island

Angel Island is a small island off the San Francisco bay, and going camping there requires some grit as you’ll have to hike miles for some of the campsites. However, every step you take is worth it for those incredible views of the San Francisco skyline and other California attractions local to the area.

If camping isn’t your thing, then San Francisco’s scenic helicopter flight will fly you over the island or the twilight boat rise will cruise you around it.

2. Catch a Giant’s Game at Oracle Park

One of the most celebrated teams in major league baseball is the San Francisco Giants, and catching one of their games at the home stadium is sure to give you a thrilling night of action and fun. Whether you’re a huge fan of baseball or have never been to a game before, this activity is simply one of those things to do in California that you ought not to miss out on! If nothing else, make sure to eat the signature crab sandwich while you are there.

3. Hike to the Top of Half Dome

Located at Yosemite Valley’s eastern end, Half Dome is a famous granite dome that got its name from its unique shape. At 8,800 feet above sea level, it offers a dramatic and challenging hike that many love to take on as an adventure (that’s why it made our !). Luckily, this difficult climb only takes 10 to 12 hours to complete.

4. Climb Mount Shasta

Located at Cascada Range’s southern end, Mount Shasta is a volcano that may or may not be still active. It’s topped with a layer of ice, but is an easier hike than the above-mentioned Half Dome, while offering picturesque views of the mountains around you and the nature below you. There are various trails you can hop on, depending on whether your interest lies in reaching the very top, one of its many falls or lakes, or the less visited and more challenging Hotlum-Wintun Ridge.

5. Dine at the French Laundry in Yountville

The French Laundry in the Napa Valley is definitely an overachiever, it has had three coveted Michelin Stars since 2006 and Anthony Bourdain has called it “the best restaurant in the world, period.” Its Chef’s Tasting Menu changes daily and is a must-do experience for all foodies! Owner and chef extraordinaire, Thomas Keller is a master at his craft, but it will cost you a pretty penny to eat his food at this highly acclaimed restaurant. A dinner can easily run over $400 per person, but the hardest part is actually getting a reservation which can take months. This article will help: Getting reservations at Napa’s The French Laundry. Let me know if you are successful!

Foodie Bucket List Goal 1B: While you are waiting to snag reservations, why not try your hand at cooking some of the exquisite dishes that you can find in The French Laundry Cookbook.
