Summer Practice Info 2019

XC Summer Workout Info 2019

  • Summer practices will all start at 9:30AM on JUNE 24, 2019 and will last one hour.
  • The Week of July 1-5 is a dead period and coaches cannot have contact with students
  • On Mondays we will meet at the intersection of Oatlands Road and Route 15, Parking is limited here so if you are dropping off please leave immediately, if you are driving please try to carpool.
  • On Wednesdays we will meet at Trailside Park at the W&OD trail.
  • Official practice/ tryouts start on August 5 through August 7 at 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The time trial/ alumni/ parents race will be on the 7th at BWHS
  • To make the team you must run a 5K in under 30 minutes and be in at least the top 30. As a reference, the 30th place person last year in the time trial was 22:00 for boys and 29:00 for girls.
  • All paperwork must be in by August 2rd. That includes the participation forms which must be done online (they will be available starting in June) and a physical dated after May 1. All forms will be on the BWHS athletic website.
  • To participate in summer practices, you must have your physical complete, dated after May 1 and turned into the office.
  • More info, schedule, and practice locations will be on the website starting in late May and June
  • After June 10 you must sign up for “Notify Me” on the BWHS website because that is how I communicate all info. The site refreshes to the next year on June 10th so everyone that was on there last year will have to sign up again.
  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays starting July 9th in the BWHS Wrestling room from 2:00 to 3:00 there will be conditioning practice with Coach Jones, I would highly recommend that people go to this to get your core strength up before the start of official practice in August.

Monday--- 9:30 at Oatlands Road and Route 15 (not Oatlands plantation), there is a large median there to park, try to carpool on these days.

Tuesday--- Run on Own, conditioning practice from 2:00 to 3:00 in BWHS wrestling room starting July 9

Team Rules and Expectations

BWHS Cross Country

Expectations and Requirements

  1. Runners will be positive towards their teammates and their opponents at all times, and will be respectful of others on their team and those they compete against.
  1. Runners will adhere to all policies of the VHSL, LCPS, and BWHS
  1. Runners will have a physical on a VHSL form dated after May 1st of current year before they can become a member of the team.
  1. Runners will follow every coach’s instructions or could be dismissed from team.
  1. Runners will be at practice on time. Being late shows a lack of respect for the team and coaching staff. If you cannot be at practice on time then there is not a spot on the team for you. There is a Circuit for every time you are late - Practice is not over until Coaches have dismissed athletes (all athletes must check out with a coach when leaving)
  1. Runners must wear a watch and have a water bottle, we will provide additional water. Runners are expected to have running shoes. We will have a shoe night during the season at Potomac River Running.

ATHLETES WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALL PRACTICES AND MEETS.

Missed practices and meets will be excused for:

1. Family Emergency

  1. Medical Appt. / Illness (please let coach know ahead of time)

All athletes are required to contact the coach in advance, athletes must directly tell the coaching staff not parents.

-Consequences: - Once the season starts (August 6th) - A combination of 3 unexcused missed practices will result in a missed meet or a combination of 6 late arrivals to practice and/ or 6 early dismissals

-1 missed meet will result in missing the next meet

  • Athletes wishing to run on Varsity are expected to be at all meets and follow these guidelines
  • We do have meets on Saturdays so do not schedule appointments for Saturday mornings or early afternoons
  • Please schedule college visits and doctor appointments around XC. Friday afternoons are good times for doctor appointments. Loudoun County rules requires a note from the doctor allowing the student to return to athletic competition (including practice). This includes dentist, orthodontist, and other doctors not related to a specific illness or injury.
  • Be SURE you know where practice is located every day. It may change if you are absent. There is no reason for “I didn't know,” or “Where is practice today?” If in doubt, contact another runner…. Call a friend! The only excuses acceptable for missing a practice or a meet are: 1) death in the family, 2) doctor's appointment, 3) very ill. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • If you are absent or are going to be absent, please e-mail Coach Weaver YOURSELF. Do not have a parent call when you are out! We are trying to create an atmosphere of responsibility and respect. Each of you is expected to show these traits!
