Hold luggage | easyJet (2024)

Cabin bags >

Each customer including children and infants can buy up to three hold bags. A standard hold bag is 23kg. You can buy extra weight in 3kgs units, up to a maximum of 32kg per bag.

If you’re travelling with family or friends on the same flight and booking, you can pool your total weight allowance.

This means that the total weight allowance can be split among the total number of bags booked, as long as no single item weighs more than 32kg. Maximum total size (length + width + height) = under 275cm.

We've got a range of bag options to suit every kind of trip:

Hold luggage explained

0m47s

This video explains the easyJet hold luggage policy, including your allowances and any costs for exceeding them. Remember, although there is a charge for each hold item, it's always cheaper to book hold luggage online or via our customer service team before you arrive at the airport.

Smart luggage

Smart luggage is a bag (suitcase, rucksack or similar) that contains a lithium battery or power bank, which is used to power itself or to recharge other devices. There are restrictions on the type of lithium batteries allowed. Please check herefor more information.

If the smart luggage is to be checked in and put in the hold, you need to disconnect and remove the lithium battery/power bank from the smart luggage at Bag Drop and take it into the cabin with you. Any exposed terminals should be covered with tape to prevent against short circuits.

For safety reasons, the lithium battery/power bank needs to be disconnected, so if you are unable to remove it from your luggage, we won’t be able to accept the bag on board.

Accessories

You’re allowed to bring some extra things into the cabin. e.g. umbrella, overcoat, crutches, walking stick, one standard bag of goods bought at the airport.

Adding hold luggage to your booking

The easiest and cheapest way to do this is online or via our mobile app when you book your flights. You can also add them after you’ve booked in Manage Bookings, or during online check-in.

Please note that purchasing your bags online is cheaper. Any bags not purchased online in advance, or that exceed your cabin bag allowance, will need to be placed in the hold, and you will be required to pay an airport bag fee of up to £48 per bag.

You can also do this at the airport or via our Customer Services Team but it does cost a little more. See fees and charges.

When you add hold luggage to your booking we add a bag to all sectors on your booking. Once you’ve booked hold luggage we’re unable to offer you a refund should you change your mind.If you want to buy hold luggage for only one sector, you can only do this at the airport. Please check our fees and chargesfor current prices.

If you’ve already checked in you can still add hold luggage to your booking in Manage Bookings. Once you’ve added your luggage simply reprint your boarding passes.

Adding extra luggage weight

It’s important that you buy the right amount of weight before you fly. You can add extra weight to your hold luggage booking at any time before you fly. It’s easier and cheaper to do this online via Manage Bookings. If your hold luggage weighs more than your allowance when you arrive at the airport we charge you a fee for each 1kg of excess weight. (See fees and charges).

Useful packing tips

Label your luggage

Make sure your bags stand out from the crowd on the carousel! We advised attaching something noticeable and unique to your luggage like a colourful ribbon, eye-catching sticker or personalised tag. This will make it easier for you to spot your luggage on the carousel at arrivals and avoid any confusion with similar bags. We also recommend adding a label to your luggage with your name and contact details such as address, email and phone number and put a copy of these details inside your bag too! This would really help us reunite you with your bag in the unlikely event of the exterior tags falling off. Finally, make sure to remove any old luggage tags or stickers from previous trips, you’ll get a fresh new tag for your trip at our Bag Drop desks.

Use a reliable bag

Our bags go through a lot when they’re travelling the world with us! We advised checking your bag over before your trip to make sure zips, handles and wheels are working properly, it’s free from any major rips or cracks and that any loose straps or handles are secured to avoid damage. Avoid overpacking as this can result in your bag bursting during travel. If you’re struggling to squeeze in that extra pair or shoes or that perfect souvenir, we have plenty of additional baggage options available.

Keep your essentials with you

We recommend packing essential items in your cabin bag, this includes medication, money, valuables and important travel documents. Once your bag is checked into the aircraft hold you won’t be able to access it again until you’re in the arrivals hall of your destination airport.
