England decimated Oman in their Group B match of T20 World Cup 2024, bowling their opponents out for just 47 and then chasing down the target with 101 balls and 8 wickets to spare. England came up with a ruthless effort against the associate nation, bringing their campaign back to life and putting themselves back in the race to the Super 8s. Adil Rashid stole the show with a four-wicket haul while Mark Wood and Jofra Archer picked up 3 wickets each at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

ENG v OMA: T20 World Cup Highlights

England scripted a world record by becoming the first Test-playing nation to win a T20I match by a margin of 100 or more balls to spare. England raced to 50 for 2 in just 3.1 overs after Jos Buttler and Phil Salt decided to finish things off quickly.

With the win, England moved to the third spot in the five-team Group C table behind leaders Australia and second-placed Scotland. More importantly, England's Net Run Rate went past Scotland's, thanks to their commanding win over Oman.

England's Net Run Rate shot to +3.018. However, they still don't have fate in their own hands. Scotland, who defeated Oman and Namibia after their game against England was washed out due to rain, have 5 points in 3 matches. Scotland need to lose to Australia in their final Group B game and England need to hammer Namibia in their final game of the league stage to progress to the Super 8s and keep their title defence alive.

ENGLAND VS OMAN: HIGHLIGHTS

Jos Buttler was unbeaten on 24 off just 8 balls as he hit 4 boundaries and a six to help England chase down the total in just 3.1 overs. Phil Salt chipped in with 12 runs, which included 2 sixes. Salt only spent 3 deliveries in the middle as he hit two sixes and then was dismissed in the third delivery of the first over bowled by Bilal Khan.

England also lost Will Jacks for 5. The RCB batter tried to throw the kitchen sink at everything, but did not middle many and was undone by a short one from Kaleemullah.

Oman did not have a lot to rejoice as they were thoroughly outplayed by a spirited England, who were out to prove their naysayers wrong.

Jonny Bairstow hit the winning runs, chipping in with an unbeaten 8 as Oman slipped to one of the biggest defeats in the history of T20 international cricket.

ENGLAND'S WIN IN COMPARISON

England's win is the joint sixth-biggest in terms of number of balls remaining in T20I cricket.

Spain's win over the Isle of Man in which the former chased down 11 in just 2 balls in February 2023 is the record for the biggest victory in terms of the number of balls remaining (118).

Before England, Sri Lanka held the record for the biggest win for Test-playing nation in terms of balls remaining in T20I cricket - when they chased down 40 in 5 overs against the Netherlands in 2014.

HOW OMAN WERE BUNDLED OUT FOR 47

Oman batters were no match to England's bowling attack's quality. Oman were reduced to 25 for 4 as the duo of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood rattled the batters with pace. Oman were not used to consistently facing 150 kph and more, and it showed in their inability to deal with the heat from the two world-class quicks.

Oman's 47 was the fourth-lowest total in men's T20 World Cup history and their lowest in the tournament. It was also the lowest total for a team against England in men's T20Is.

Jofra Archer and Mark Wood picked two wickets each in the powerplay as Oman lost openers Pratik Athavale, Prajapati Kashyap, captain Aqib Ilyas and Zeeshan Maqsood to single-digit scores.

Adil Rashid then joined the party after the powerplay and ran through the middle-orders. None of the Oman batters were able to read the leg-spinner's variations as the Oman innings was over in just 80 balls.

Shoaib Khan (11) was the only Oman batter, who managed to score in double digits.

HOW DID OMAN CAPTAIN REACT

Oman captain rued their poor performance against England, but also highlighted the lack of opportunities for associate teams to face high-quality opposition consistently.

"We are used to playing bowlers that bowl in the 130-140kph range in associate cricket. So it's difficult when, once in a year, you play against bowlers bowling 150-plus, there is something in your mind. It's a different thing when you're used to playing such bowlers," Aqib Ilyas said.

Oman ended their Group B campaign without a win in four matches.
