My brother works at the local hospital as a nurse, and these past couple of years have really been hard on him.

I’ve always wanted to give back something to him and found the perfect way to do so.

He had been paying a lot for his Verizon phone connection every month, so I decided to help him sign up for their exclusive discounts for nurses.

Once I did some digging about the discount, I got him signed up, and we went through all of the verification and checks that Verizon had.

I’ll take you through the entire process and what you’ll need to qualify for the Nurse Discount and get you signed up as quickly as possible.

Verizon has a discount program for currently employed nurses and respiratory therapists that you can sign up for to get up to $25 off on your Verizon phone or Fios bill. The discount won’t immediately appear in your shopping cart, and it will only take effect after one or two billing cycles after you get a confirmation email from them.

How To Check Eligibility For a Verizon Discount

Verizon Nurse Discount: Check if You're Eligible - Robot Powered Home (1)

Verizon has partnered with ID.me, a third-party service that allows you to authenticate your legal and professional identities.

The carrier uses this service to confirm that you are who you claim to be and is practicing the trade with a legal and valid license.

Along with this, there are a couple of other eligibility points that Verizon has, which can change depending on what discount you’re applying for.

All eligibility checks are done through Verizon’s website.

You’ll need to create a new ID.me account and add in all your identification details or login to an account if you already have one.

Then you’ll need to follow the steps that Verizon shows you to pass the verification and activate the discount on your account.

Then you’ll need to select a plan to which Verizon should add the discount if you’re getting a new line or add the discount to your existing plan.

The discount will only apply after one to two billing cycles, so you may not see your bill going down immediately.

Verizon Nurse Discount

The Verizon Nurse Discount is for currently employed nurses or respiratory therapists with a valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.

This does mean that retired nurses and respiratory therapists won’t be able to apply.

You’ll get up to $25/mo. for wireless connections and get better discounts on Fios home broadband.

You can only have one of the discounts offered at a time.

For example, if you’re a veteran and a nurse, you’ll only be able to apply to one of the discount programs at a time.

You can switch later if you need the other discount by registering again for the discount program you want to change to.

It does not mean you can’t sign up for any other promotions, though.

With the Disney Bundle, Disney+ On Us, the AutoPay and Paperless Billing discounts are still available.

Verizon will also verify your nurse status once a year, and they’ll remind you to do so and how you can do so when the date for re-verification rolls around.

How Much Does The Plan Cost?

Once you get verified, you’ll be sent to select a plan that the discount should apply.

If you already have a plan, the discount will apply to that plan instead.

The discounts are available on Verizon’s flagship 5G plans, and along with with the auto pay discount, you’re looking at a pretty substantial discount overall.

These are the Unlimited plans that the discount can be applied to:

Plan NamePrice without Autopay discount for one linePrice without Autopay discount for four lines
5G Get More$90/mo.$55/mo.
5G Play More$80/mo. with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ included$55 with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ included
5G Do More$80/mo.$45/mo.
5G Start$70/mo.$35/mo.

The amount you’ll get as a discount on your plan will depend on how many lines you’ll use on the plan and what plan you select.

You should usually get up to $25 off your monthly bill, and if you add the auto-pay discount of $10, you’re potentially looking at up to $35 in savings.

Does The Nurse Discount Apply To All Plans

The Nurses Discount applies to all Unlimited plans if you are already a Verizon customer.

If you want to apply as a new customer, you’ll have to go for a 5G plan instead.

New customers should select the 5G Start, 5G Play More, 5G Do More, or the 5G Get More Unlimited plans to qualify.

You won’t get the discount if you go for a 4G plan and if you’re a new customer.

If you’re already a Verizon customer and your plan doesn’t qualify, you are still offered the option of changing it to an eligible plan.

Go to the My Plan page on your Verizon account or check under your account to find My Plan in the My Verizon app.

Change your plan to an Unlimited plan, and then you can apply for the discount and get it added to your bill.

Registering For Nurse Discount

Registering for the Nurse Discount is pretty easy; all you have to do is visit Verizon’s Nurse Discount page.

Once you’re there, select Check Eligibility to be taken to the ID.me website.

Log in with your ID.me or third-party account, or create one if required.

Make sure your professional ID is uploaded and ready to go, and the website will help you do that.

Once ID.me runs its checks and verifies your ID.

You’ll be taken to Verizon’s website, where you can select your plan if you’re a new customer or confirm that you want the discount on your current plan if you’re already on Verizon.

Follow the prompts and complete them to get the discount added to your account.

The new changes might take one or two billing cycles to reflect on the bill, so you might need to wait an extra month for the discount to kick in.

You will be asked to reverify your details again after a year or so, and Verizon will remind you to complete this pretty early.

Nurse Discount On Verizon Fios

If you already have Verizon mobile, Fios becomes an affordable internet service if you compare it with the competition.

The fact that the Nurse Discount also works on Fios only adds to the value that Fios offers.

I recommend you go for Fios if you want to save a lot on your internet.

This is how the plans will look like if you have the Nurse Discount:

Plan NameActual PriceDiscounted Price without Phone PlanDiscounted Price with Phone Plan
1 Gig$90/mo.$75/mo.$50/mo.
500 Mbps$70/mo.$60/mo.$35/mo.
300 Mbps$50/mo.$45/mo.$20/mo.

From seeing these prices, it is easy to say that getting Fios is an excellent deal if you already have a Verizon phone plan.

How Much Can You Save With Nurse Discount?

The maximum amount you can save on your phone bill with the Nurse Discount is capped at $25 on every billing cycle.

The discount for Fios is the lesser-priced plan, which can differ from one plan to the next.

If you add the auto-pay discount to the Nurse Discount, you’ll potentially be able to get $35, depending on the plan you signed up for.

You can also use the Disney+ bundle, or the Disney+ on Us offer to save on your Disney+ subscription every month.

The 5G Get More plan has a few streaming services like Hulu and Disney+ included.

So you can cancel their standalone subscription and use Verizon’s offer to use it for free.

Fios also offers a solid Nurse Discount, so if you add that in, you’re looking at a sweet deal.

Using all of the potential savings, you’ll be looking at around $70-80 saved every month on the internet, phone, and streaming services.

Is Nurse Discount Applicable to Spouses?

The Nurse Discount is applicable only if the person applying for the discount is a currently employed nurse registered to work in their state.

Their spouses cannot avail of the discount, and the person applying for it must also be the account owner.

The account owner should be a qualified nurse, and Verizon will verify their identity to keep the account qualified for the discount.

You’ll have to transfer ownership to the nurse, and they’ll need to apply for the discount as the account owner.

Contact Verizon to know how you can transfer ownership of your account.

Discounts Galore

Verizon has quite a few discount programs oriented towards giving back to the community, and signing up for them is easy.

They have discounts for first responders, teachers, veterans, and students, and they only need your identity to be verified.

You also have employer discounts when Verizon partners with your employer to give you discounts and other benefits.

If you fall into any of these categories, go to Verizon’s website to sign up for the discounts.
